drinking culture

I was out on the balcony, drinking with the norwegians the other night.
Ivan said he had heard that the norwegian and finnish drinking cultures were different, and wanted to know if this was true.
He had heard that whereas norwegians take a cup of coffee, and drop a coin in, and pour booze in until they see the coin, finnish people put the coin on the table, drink booze until they cant see the coin anymore, and then drink coffee until they can see the coin again.

Only scandinavians can tell stories like these.. and laugh with a little pride.

MONTPELLIER

PLACES, PEOPLE

Well, after six consecutive plans to get the hell out of Paris, we finally got off the train in Chamberry at nine a.m. today.
Yep, we have vacations from sciences po, and gonzalo and i had decided a long time ago that we would go to Berlin. And then Barcelona. And then Montpellier. It seemed like whatever we did, it didnt work. The whole trip was jinxed. Paris was like a bermuda triangle, and we couldnt get out.

So it was an enormous relief to sit down on the terrace of a sunny plaza, order carpaccio, a pitcher of water, and a bottle of rose and take all our time to enjoy it. Later we caught a ride to Montpellier. Paris is a really beautiful and enjoyable city, but as far as any peace and quiet goes, its not in the top ten.

On a bluer note, a good deal of people have left during the last weeks.
Its nice to leave when there´s still people, your farewell toasts will boast a large crowd and you don´t have to stay behind. hah.
But it´s part of living abroad. You get to know great new people who enrich your life, and even as you deepen those friendships, you know that your ways will part in a not-so-distant-future. Yet, those people are always there to visit, and they will be the only ones who will ever share, and so understand, your experience. At the end of the day, it´s the people that make the place.

MONDAY

I finished my oral presentations yesterday, the next one is in a month and a half.
It permitted me to learn new things about myself, like, when nervous, i only get firered around the neck.
So, i headed to our local Sciences Po bar (i have found people who actually go to have a beer after classes! and with me too!). When it was time to go home, Stella Artois had been gentle to me.
When i came home to the maison de la norvège - what do you know! - there were norwegians enjoying some wine in the kitchen. Well, being a social man, i decided they needed to internationalize their scene a little, and gracefully offered the wine i had in store.
Well, everybody went to sleep, since they had school. I didnt though, so i took out my laptop, and watched 9 episodes of Lost consequetively. Its amazing, Sawyer goes... just kidding.
So, i woke up today around three, and now something's cooking.
More specifically, a carbonara casserole. With a touch of goat cheese.
Gotta go see it doesnt burn,
Take care
